Aspatria Farmers, the UK’s oldest agricultural cooperative, is celebrating 155 years of supporting farmers across Cumbria, Northumberland, South West Scotland, and beyond. Established in 1870, the cooperative remains entirely farmer-owned, staying true to its founding mission of providing high-quality products, services and expertise at competitive prices.
In a landmark achievement, Aspatria Farmers has recorded its highest-ever sales and will be paying a dividend to members for the first time in years, based on their 2023/2024 financial year spending.
“This is a proud moment for Aspatria Farmers and our members,” said CEO Ian Buchanan.
“Reaching 155 years is a testament to our dedication to the agricultural community. Our strength lies in our ability to adapt and work closely with leading suppliers to provide the best possible support to our customers and members. We are incredibly proud of our heritage and remain focused on helping farmers thrive in an ever-evolving industry”.
At our 155th Annual AGM in March 2025, it was agreed that members would be paid a dividend for the first time in many years. The decision to make a dividend payment underscores Aspatria Farmers unwavering commitment to its members. This milestone highlights the benefits of being part of a successful, farmer-owned cooperative that continues to reinvest in its community and its future.
Aspatria Farmers has grown into one of the region’s most significant independent suppliers, with over 900 members and thousands of farm account customers. As the largest independent buyer of Animal Feeds in Northern England, the cooperative ensures competitive pricing and expert, unbiased advice. It also provides specialist Dairy Engineering services from its Longtown store and operates successful engineering and machinery workshops in Aspatria.
With stores in Aspatria, Penrith and Longtown, the cooperative supplies everything from Animal Feeds and Livestock Equipment to Agronomy Services, Dairy Hygiene, Machinery, Clothing, and Pet & Equine products. Profits are reinvested to benefit members, strengthening the cooperative’s future and ensuring continued support for the agricultural community.
Thank you to all of our members and customers for your ongoing support.
